Is it just me, or are companies producing a lot of one-shots and limited series right now? Not that I’m necessarily complaining, mind you, since I’d rather they have a plan for a series (even if it’s a short one) than just meander for ten issues trying to figure out where they’re going with the story.
Spin Angels is kind of a weird one. The first two issues had an “of 3″ next to the issue number, #3 had no such indicator, and now #4 is out. It’s pretty good, but it’s going to be tough to maintain an ongoing series at $5.99 an issue.
Mike Grell is continuing on Warlord, so it looks like I’ll be getting it for the time being. I just finished up Showcase Presents: Warlord Vol. 1
and really enjoyed it. Mike Grell just writes a fun tale, no matter how potentially cliché it is. It’s too bad about the first six issues being boring as hell, though.
As much as I like Lobo, Highway to Hell #1 was kind of so-so. I hope it picks up in the second and final issue.
The new creative team takes over on Thor this month as well. pleaseletitbegood, pleaseletitbegood…

Still unsure about continuing Domino Lady, and I’m not real happy about Herc going up to $3.99. Queen Sonja was so-so, and I’m giving it another issue or two before I decide to cut it or not. Otherwise, pretty standard stuff for me.

I’m giving Tony Daniel one arc to sell me or not. The first part was okay, but the first issue of Cowl wasn’t terrible, either, and we know how that turned out.
I’m still undecided on Moon Knight. It does some things rather well, but I’m not sure they’re doing enough to make me care about Spector and his new motivation.
Part of me wants to move Deadpool to the Culling List, too, and if it turns out Van Lente is writing Deadpool Team-Up permanently, that may just happen.

LOBO! LOBO! LOBO! LOBO! (Can you tell I get a tad excited when any new Lobo book comes out?)
I’ve been avoiding any of the Deadpool spin-off books, but this one guest-stars Hercules and is written by Fred Van Lente, who is doing great work on that book, so at least worth the look-see. No promises on any future issues, though, unless Van Lente is going to be writing them. If that’s the case, I may drop the main series and start picking this one up.
Apparently, Grell’s story was only a two-parter, so we’ll see if he’s back for Warlord next month or if whoever wrote the first unimpressive arc is. If it ain’t Grell, I’m not interested.
Vampi’s still only $2. I’m worried the story ends stupidly, and they didn’t think they could sell the next series if this one cost too much.
