Secret Invasion #8 [Dec 2008]

The Skrulls’ entire career basically consist of them appearing as someone else in order to enact some great scheme to conquer the earth only to eventually be beaten down by one or more of Earth’s heroes. Now, however, they’ve found religion and gone two steps further, planning for this years in advance, and infiltrating every sector of the Marvel Universe — a true “Secret Invasion” (insert evil, maniacal laughter here).

Ghost Rider #27 [Nov 2008]

I thought this book seemed to be heading in the right direction, which is why I gave it a “B” last month. However, it turns out I spoke too soon.

What started out as a bad idea by Daniel Way (really, don’t look so shocked) is getting out of control. This whole Zadkiel angle couldn’t be any less interesting if it was a dissertation on dryer lint and its relation to global warming.

First “Suck It!”, Now “STFU!”…

Giant-Size Astonishing X-Men #1 [Jul 2008]

All I have to say is, “Thank Odin this thing is finally over.”

This series would’ve been a whole lot better if it had actually come out monthly. As it is, all I can remember happening up until this issue is 1) Big, tough alien attacks X-Men; 2) Colossus magically returns from the dead; 3) Danger Room becomes a sentient, separate entity; 4) White Queen pretends to be bad, but isn’t; and 5) Aliens, fearing Colossus will destroy their planet, fire a big bullet at Earth.

Fantastic Four #557 [Jul 2008]

So that’s it, eh?  CAP gets built up as this big threat, able to adapt to the point to defend itself against the combined forces of most of the Avengers (including the Sentry).  So how do you combat such a threat? Reed pulls a blue Mazinger out of his elastic ass and finishes it with one punch. 

Wow… That’s some tight plotting there, Millar. About the only way this could’ve been more of a let-down would have been CAP’s batteries running out of juice.
